Holiday Season & Matric Rage – Let’s Stay Aware and Responsible
From 29 November to 6 December, uMhlanga will see a noticeable uptick in activity as Matric Rage gets underway, with thousands of school-leavers descending on our area to celebrate the end of exams. At the same time, several schools begin closing for the December holidays as early as 3 December, adding to the seasonal buzz.
While we welcome the energy and vibrancy that comes with this time of year, it’s important for residents to be aware: expect increased traffic, late-night noise, and larger crowds, especially around hotspots and the promenade.
We urge all residents to stay alert and look out for one another. If you’re a parent, now is a great time to have open conversations with your teens about celebrating responsibly and respectfully.
uMhlanga is a shared space — let’s work together to keep it safe, clean, and enjoyable for all during this busy time.
Standing Together Against Reckless Driving
URRA remains firmly committed to tackling the ongoing issue of reckless driving in uMhlanga. From speeding and ignoring traffic rules to dangerous behaviour near residential areas, these actions put lives at risk — and we are not standing by.
We continue to work closely with Metro Police, Ward Councillor Singh, and other enforcement bodies to push for stronger, visible policing and permanent traffic-calming measures in problem areas.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report incidents such as:
⚫ Excessive speeding
⚫ Illegal parking
⚫ Dangerous driving behaviour
⚫ Bylaw violations
Every report strengthens the case for enforcement — and your voice matters.
Together, we can help create safer, more liveable streets for all who live, walk, cycle, and drive in uMhlanga.
